Is it allowed in the EU to force consumers to replace a broken household product instead of repairing it for nearly the same cost?

NO — The EU “Directive on common rules promoting the repair of goods” (aka Right to Repair Directive) was adopted on 13 June 2024 and enters into force 30 July 2024. Member states must put it into their national laws by 31 July 2026. Under it, consumers have new rights: easier repair of goods, access to spare parts, clarity on repair times and prices, legal guarantee extensions if you choose repair instead of replacement, etc.
