Is it allowed to broadcast foreign films in Uzbekistan without Uzbek subtitles?

Last updated on October 3, 2025

No, since 2022, Uzbekistan requires all foreign films shown in cinemas or on television to include Uzbek-language subtitles or dubbing. This regulation, enforced by the Agency for Information and Mass Communications, aims to promote the national language and ensure accessibility for all citizens. Broadcasters and distributors must comply or risk license suspension. The rule applies to theatrical releases, streaming platforms, and public screenings. Exceptions may be granted for educational or diplomatic events.
