Is it allowed to advertise weight‑loss supplements in South Korea with health claims on social media?

Last updated on October 2, 2025

Not without substantiation; South Korea’s Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) strictly regulates health functional foods and claims; companies must ensure product classification, obtain MFDS approval for functional claims, comply with permitted wording and labelling rules, and avoid unapproved medical or therapeutic claims on advertising including social media; influencers and advertisers are also liable for misleading claims and must disclose sponsorships; violations can result in administrative sanctions, fines, product recalls and criminal liability for serious breaches; marketers should submit required dossiers and follow MFDS guidance before launching claims-driven campaigns.
